A unique catch-up session since it’s the first of the 2010 season! Once again, happy new year to everyone. As for F1 news, you can find it as usual every day on Motorsinside.com and every Monday through this catch-up session. As a reminder, its principle is to gather the essentials of the top car racing category news from the past week. For example, today’s agenda includes the appointment of the new Renault F1 director and the announcement of the R30’s colors. Things are becoming clearer for the French manufacturer, which renewed its commitment to F1 only recently. Next, we’ll see that Jean Todt has called upon a trusted individual to help in the challenging task of making the sport greener. Finally, for the past few days, the F1 world has been in a stir as a certain Michael Schumacher announced his return to competition. More reactions in this article…
Things are moving at Renault: New Director and New Colors!
A few weeks ago, the entire F1 paddock and the many fans around the world welcomed with joy Renault’s decision to stay in the sport. This was made possible thanks to Gérard Lopez, the new majority shareholder of the team, who owns the investment fund Genii Capital. It was therefore highly likely that the hierarchy of the French team would be shaken up once again. Almost officially, Eric Bouller is the new team director, replacing Bob Bell, who will resume his role as technical director. The same goes for Jean-François Caubet, also acting as an interim manager at Renault since the crashgate incident and the departures of Briatore and Symonds, who will be in charge of communications again. And since good news never comes alone, the first colors of the future R30 have been exclusively unveiled. It will be yellow and black. You have to look far back in the past to find similar colors. More information will be unveiled by the Renault team by mid-January…

A Frenchman Helps Another Frenchman at the FIA!
No doubt, the Frenchman at the FIA everyone is talking about is Jean Todt, the recent president of the Federation since the election last October. But no one suspects the Frenchman who will be joining him. It is Gilles Simon, who will head a working group to make Formula 1 greener and less polluting. The task is therefore significant for the Frenchman, a former member of Scuderia Ferrari who resigned from his position nearly three months ago. The duo knows each other well and should work effectively within the governing body as Todt’s main objective is to make the sport much cleaner and more environmentally friendly.

Michael Schumacher’s Return: Reactions (continued)
The announcement was made a few days before Christmas, but it continues to spark reactions in the early days of 2010, regarding the return of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher. Daimler, the company that owns Mercedes GP, is the one voicing concerns. For them, this very costly return in terms of contract value is completely at odds with the current crisis and the firing of dozens if not hundreds of people within the walls of the German manufacturer. Another reaction, more Italian and therefore necessarily more Ferrari-related, comes from Piero Ferrari, son of Enzo, the founder of Scuderia Ferrari as known today. For him, it’s certainly a disappointment to see such a great champion, who has given so much of himself to the Ferrari team, leave. Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about Schumacher’s chances of ranking among the top and about the current Ferrari drivers. His full statements can be read in the following links.
