Robert Kubica’s manager has suggested that the Polish driver is now ready to stay with the Renault team since the few doubts about the future of the French team have been lifted. The former BMW driver and his close circle had requested clarifications on the team’s situation after Renault sold shares of its capital to the Luxembourg company Genii Capital.
« We need some time, at least a few days, to evaluate the new situation. Therefore, I am not in a position to say whether we are staying or leaving, » stated Kubica’s manager, Daniele Morelli at the time of the transaction.
Kubica signed a contract with Renault at the end of last year, after being with the BMW-Sauber team since 2007. Morelli stated on Monday that things have progressed since then and that Kubica will indeed be driving for the Losange in 2010.
« We are heading in the right direction, » Morelli told BBC Sport. « There was no doubt, but it was very important for us to understand who had the key roles in the team. Clarifications had also been requested regarding the budget. The latter is crucial for car updates. »
Morelli also denied that Kubica had sought to obtain more money after the agreement with Genii Capital: « It is completely false to say that we asked for more money. It is not in our interest to take advantage. We want money for the team. »
« Robert wants a high-performance car. It is pointless for the driver to receive more money if you have a car that is not reliable. It is better to score points and make podiums before earning more money. »
