Sauber or rather BMW-Sauber is the first Formula 1 team to set its 2010 launch date after announcing that it will unveil its new car at the Valencia circuit on Sunday, January 31.
The team will launch on the eve of the first practice session of the season, which will take place on the Spanish track from February 1 to 3. The Formula 1 Teams Association (FOTA) initially hoped that all 13 teams would unveil their 2010 cars at a single grand event, but this plan had to be abandoned for logistical reasons.
The founder, Peter Sauber, regained ownership of his team in 2010 after BMW’s withdrawal and the failed takeover by Qadbak. However, the name BMW Sauber F1 Team is still retained at present.
The departure of BMW led to staff reductions at Sauber and the use of Ferrari engines. The team signed a contract with former Toyota rookie Kamui Kobayashi as the first driver but has not yet announced who will occupy the second seat.
