Flavio Briatore is waiting to see if he will return to the top category of motorsport now that his lifetime ban from Formula 1 has been lifted. The former Renault team principal has just won his case against the FIA regarding a lifetime ban from all motorsport competitions. This ban was imposed following his involvement in crashgate, one of the biggest scandals in the sport’s history.

But despite this turn of events, which could lead to a return to F1, Briatore insists he does not want to rush into a decision about his future: “Allow me to take some time to enjoy this moment of happiness after this difficult period,” said the former Renault boss.

« Regarding my possible return to F1, I have time ahead of me. I would first like to thank the people who stayed loyal to me during these difficult times. They have shown me all their trust and friendship. »

Briatore welcomes the decision of the Paris High Court, which disagreed with the decision made by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in September 2009: « I would like to express my greatest joy regarding the decision made by the Paris High Court, » he explained.

« I believe it is important for the FIA to play an active role in motor racing. As a sportsman and passionately involved in the field of racing for over 20 years, the decision to resort to civil courts to challenge an FIA decision was difficult. »

« The fact is that the World Council sought to completely sideline me, leaving me no other choice. The decision made restores my dignity and freedom that certain people had tried to deprive me of. »

The FIA is considering appealing the decision of the French court, which also lifted the five-year sports ban for Pat Symonds.
