Flavio Briatore intends to pursue legal action against the Piquet family after his lifetime ban from all motorsports was overturned by French courts. The former Renault boss had announced that he would file a lawsuit against Nelson Piquet Jr and his father when the Singapore crashgate scandal broke last September. In the weeks that followed, Renault parted ways with Briatore, who received a permanent ban from all motorsport events by the FIA World Council.
Interviewed by the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, when asked if he was now considering taking action against the Piquet, Briatore replied: « It’s very likely. The harm that has been done will not be forgotten in a day. »
Briatore also recalled the personal conflicts between him and the former FIA president, Max Mosley: « They talk about Max Mosley’s vendetta, who always ran the FIA and the World Council as if it were his private property. They reassured me, telling me they understood I had nothing to do with this affair. It was an appalling thing after 18 years in F1. »
First Mosley tried to make me lose the titles, first with Schumi then with Alonso, and then he tried to destroy me with this story. I hope for a better relationship with the FIA, with its new president, Jean Todt. I have known Jean for years, I can bet on his honesty, Briatore said. It’s a matter between me and Mr. Mosley.
