The Italian team Toro Rosso has indeed confirmed that Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari will remain with them for the 2010 season. The 19-year-old became the youngest driver to take part in a Grand Prix last year when he replaced Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais starting from the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Although it was expected that Alguersuari would stay with Toro Rosso, the team had not officially confirmed it until yesterday.
« Considering that he only made his debut mid-season in 2009 at the Hungarian Grand Prix without any prior testing, he did a good job. He made constant progress throughout the second half of the year, taking into account that he was only nineteen, » stated team principal Franz Tost.
« This season, he will once again have a steep learning curve because all the early-year circuits will be new to him. Jaime’s example also confirms our team’s commitment to young drivers coming out of the Red Bull program. »
Today’s announcement confirms that Toro Rosso will retain the same line-up as in 2009 with Sébastien Buemi as driver number 1.
With Alguersuari confirmed for 2010, as well as Fernando Alonso at Ferrari and Pedro de la Rosa at BMW-Sauber, Spain will have three representatives on the Formula 1 grids for the first time.
