The only test driver for McLaren, Gary Paffett will have the honor of being the first man to get behind the wheel of the team’s new car in Valencia next week. The Woking team had originally placed Pedro de la Rosa in this position for the first run of the MP4-25, but the Spaniard’s move to BMW-Sauber forced McLaren to change its plans.
Since Paffett is expected to continue his role as a test driver at McLaren, the team has decided to entrust him with the first laps of the new car.
It will be tested on the opening day, February 1st, before handing the car over to Lewis Hamilton for the second day. The reigning world champion, Jenson Button, will take over the car on the third day.
