Carabante takes command of the Campos team

The Campos Meta project is more likely to happen this season after a restructuring within the team was revealed this week. Majority owner Jose Ramon Carabante is on the verge of taking full control of the team from founder Adrian Campos. The team has faced financial difficulties in recent months, but Spanish entrepreneur Carabante is working to ensure the ‘Dallara-Cosworth’ cars are on the grid.

The GP2 race winner, Karun Chandhok, who is also heavily linked with the Stefan GP team, and the Formula Renault 3.5 champion Bertrand Baguette are reportedly competing for the second seat alongside Bruno Senna.

Carabante has hired former Force India team principal Colin Kolles and former Red Bull technical director Geoff Willis on a short-term basis. A debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14 is considered a realistic goal, although missing the first races is possible.

It is unlikely that the small team will be ready in time for the final preseason tests in Barcelona from February 25 to 28, meaning the cars will only undergo a brief shakedown before their racing debut.

The long-term presence of Kolles or Willis in the team remains uncertain. Campos, who might retain a role, was not available for comment.
