While the Mercedes GP team is eagerly awaited by observers due to their status as reigning world champions and especially because of the presence of Michael Schumacher, the Mercedes GP bosses have decided to warn F1 fans: Mercedes GP is not ready yet!

« We had a pre-testing program with the MGP W01 but we have not yet reached the level of readiness we would have liked before Bahrain. The car is promising and we have a solid development program planned for the season, but there is a lot of work to be done to ensure that we will be in the fight for the title. »

Bluff or genuine concern?

The fact remains that Norbert Haug seems very pessimistic about the start of the season and prefers to position his team as an underdog rather than as the favorite to beat:

« Judging by our competitiveness in the first two races, my impression is that we are not where we want to be and I would not want to see our team in the role of favorites. »

However, it will be necessary to work very quickly to defend the world champion title but also and above all the honor of Mercedes and Michael Schumacher in order not to be outpaced by the multitude of favorites like Ferrari or McLaren-Mercedes.

« We enter the new season as the reigning world champions. This makes us proud and everyone at Mercedes GP Petronas is proud to represent Mercedes-Benz because we are the first Mercedes team in F1 in more than half a century. »

Mercedes is therefore counting on Rosberg and Schumacher to restore a situation that would not suit the brand’s standing: I am fully convinced that the entire team and our drivers, Nico and Michael, are fully prepared to get the upper hand through our work and achieve our goals of winning races and competing for world championships.

They really pushed the development of the car throughout the test and will push each other to achieve better results on the track again.
