Ferrari changed the engines on both its cars today before the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Italian team announced this morning that it would put a new V8 in Felipe Massa’s car after data showed some abnormal parameters following yesterday’s qualifying session.
Ferrari also decided that Fernando Alonso would need a new engine after analyzing the same data on his car.
« We will change the engine on Alonso’s car as a precaution following the previous decision, » states a statement on Ferrari’s Twitter.
Massa and Alonso qualified second and third for today’s race. Since they are only at the beginning of their eight engine allowances for the 2010 season, there will be no penalty for using a new engine today. Ferrari believes that the old engines will still be usable in practice sessions at future races.
