Yung Cho Chung, the director of the South Korean circuit, hopes that doubts surrounding the preparations will be completely erased following Bernie Ecclestone’s visit. A report published in the German magazine Focus suggested last week that the South Korean event is uncertain for this year. All of this was rejected by the race organizers and Bernie Ecclestone, who visited the track itself last week.

Yung Cho Chung, CEO and race president, thinks that with these latest events, the most skeptical will be silenced forever! Speaking to Autosport about the reasons for this prevailing skepticism, Chung said: « I remember when Turkey was on the calendar, the exact same thing happened. Then, last year, it was Abu Dhabi’s turn, and it’s the same stories for us. »

« This week, we have heard stories about us, and I am truly grateful in a way because now everyone is interested in the race. Bernie Ecclestone was there, and he clarified everything, so I have to thank him! »

Chung admits that the F1 circuit is now 79% completed and emphasized that the site will establish its own identity on the calendar: « Korea is very developed in terms of telecommunications, with companies like LG and Samsung. Our circuit and the stands will have an old-fashioned style. Around the world, it is sad to see so many circuits looking alike. When you come to Korea, you will recognize the Korean track. »

Chung also claimed that the circuit’s infrastructure and plans for organizing to obtain equipment had been approved by Formula One Management. At the same time, he refutes any talk about there not being enough hotel rooms near the site to accommodate the small world of F1.

« I have always said that people should bring their own tents, » he joked about the accommodation stories. « No, seriously, there is no problem. We have the new airport right next door. We also have the train, which puts us just three hours from Seoul. »

« With Mr. Ecclestone, we were having lunch at the hotel and Mr. Ecclestone turned around and saw that the circuit was only three minutes away! There are lots of rooms and enough hotels. »
