As the F1 world keeps their eyes on the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure awaiting the latest news on Robert Kubica’s health, we learn a bit more about the accident, thanks to the testimony of Jacub Gruber, the Lotus driver’s co-pilot.
« We covered the first four kilometers of the first special stage. I was looking at my notes and I didn’t realize the car was swerving. At the moment of impact, I saw Robert holding his arm and after a few moments, he lost consciousness » reports the co-pilot who came out of the accident unharmed.
Indeed, the accident occurred just over 4 kilometers from the start, on a slight incline with a slightly wet road surface. The Polish driver’s Skoda Fabia then crashed into a guardrail, which is believed to have caused the injuries to the driver, making his extraction difficult, as it reportedly took nearly an hour and a half.
« Robert is not only a great driver, he is a friend. I just hope he comes back soon » concluded Jacub Gruber, currently at the hospital where double world champion Fernando Alonso is also present.
Friend of Robert Kubica, the Spaniard reportedly arrived in Pietra Ligure early in the evening. Like many drivers, he wanted to show his support for the Pole: Let’s all support Robert Kubica who had an accident today. In addition to being a great driver, he’s a great man.
