Steve Sexton becomes the president of the US Grand Prix

Far from the turmoil shaking Bahrain, the Austin event, organized by the US Grand Prix, is slowly taking shape to be ready in time to host Formula 1 as of 2012. To do this, they have just appointed Steve Sexton as its head.
It should be noted that Steve Sexton has extensive experience in racing, though not necessarily in auto racing: over the past 25 years, he has held four executive positions at racetracks! He served as president of Churchill Downs racetrack (where he managed to organize two Breeders’ Cup World Championships, with some races offering purses of up to five million dollars) in Kentucky, vice president of Lone Star Park in Texas, general manager of Thistledown in Cleveland, and assistant general manager at Ladbroke’s Golden Gate Fields in San Francisco.
But what Tavo Hellmund and his associates initially sought with the Austin project was his ability to manage large sports infrastructure construction projects. Thus, during his presidency in Kentucky, he launched and managed the construction of grandstands that cost $121 million. He had also been in charge of the Lone Star Park construction, which still cost $96 million.
Thus, Bobby Epstein, one of the partners, states: “We are creating a destination for world-class business and entertainment. Steve’s experience in managing top-tier events, such as the Kentucky Derby or the Breeders’ Cup, allows us to offer an experience that will be known worldwide.”
