Formula 1 teams create tens of thousands of new designs on their single-seaters during just one season. To do this, they have a vital need for a secure set of software capable of managing such a large amount of technical data. McLaren has decided to entrust its product lifecycle management software to one of the world leaders in the field, Dassault Systèmes.

Thus, the objective is to optimize the process from the first computer drawing to the installation of the new element on Lewis Hamilton’s and Jenson Button’s race cars. The solution proposed by Dassault Systèmes will also aim to strengthen collaboration and interdisciplinarity between the teams based in Woking and those present at the races.

Jonathan Neale, the CEO of McLaren Racing, states: «While it might be obvious to guide a race car from a 3D computer model to the track, there is a process that involves an extraordinarily complex and disparate series of design, purchasing, and production elements. At McLaren Racing, we have always sought to reduce our time to market, whether through intelligent design, the introduction of improved processes, or, in the case of V6 PLM, by introducing a sophisticated product lifecycle management system to improve the production cycle.»

Thus, McLaren will not be completely new to the Dassault Systèmes environment since the collaboration between the two companies dates back a long time. However, this new agreement will allow McLaren to benefit from the flagship software of the company led by Bernard Charles (which contributed to his personal fortune), CATIA.
