Hilmer will not be in Bahrain

It's not only in F1 that teams face difficulties. Hilmer will also miss the first round of the GP2 championship, which takes place in Bahrain.

The announcement was made today by the GP2 organizers: « The GP2 Series confirms that the German team Hilmer Motorsport will not participate in the first round of the 2015 GP2 championship, which will take place this weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit. »

The team had formed a partnership with Sahara Force India last year, which was reflected in the adoption of the F1 team’s color scheme on the GP2 and GP3 cars. However, this association does not seem to have borne fruit, as Franz Hilmer’s team transferred its GP3 activities to Campos last December.

He stated then: « It has been a difficult year for Hilmer Motorsport in GP3, and I would like to thank everyone who participated in the GP3 project for their commitment, hard work, and efforts. We struggled a lot in GP2, which we took over just a few weeks before the start of the season. This made things complicated for us in every way. After extensive discussions with Bruno Michel, he informed me that Adrian Campos might be interested in having a GP3 team for Campos Racing. I know Adrian very well, and we have been friends for years. So we quickly found an agreement. »

If the team had still not officially confirmed its two drivers for the upcoming season, it had nonetheless attended the winter tests at the same Middle Eastern circuit. However, it seems that participating in the first race was beyond its capabilities. This does not bode well for a possible continuation of an adventure that began in the 2013 season…

She therefore followed a strategy opposite to her partner in F1: Sahara Force India preferred to skip the initial winter tests but has since been able to participate in the first three races of the season.
