McLaren’s protégé, Stoffel Vandoorne, confirms his excellent Bahrain weekend with a new pole position. If we count those from the end of last season, he has now achieved 6 in a row. In Barcelona, he also did it in style as he was ahead of GP3 champion and Williams driver, Alex Lynn, by more than four-tenths, despite having completed one less test than his main rivals.

The main title contenders all answered the call, as Pierre Gasly, determined to make people forget his Middle Eastern misadventures, will start just behind the Belgian and ahead of Alexander Rossi’s Racing Engineering in fifth place. Two spots behind the American, we also find Raffaele Marciello’s Trident. As for Rio Haryanto, who claimed his first victory during the Bahrain sprint race, he will start 8th.

The sixth row will be 100% French since Arthur Pic is ahead of Norman Nato, in the 11th and 12th positions. For Nathanaël Berthon, repeating the podium of Bahrain seems unlikely given that he had to settle for the 19th fastest time in qualifying.
