Johnny Cecotto replaces Marco Sorensen
Johnny Cecotto will replace Marco Sorensen for the rest of the season, as Sorensen has decided to focus on GT racing. He will thus become Julian Leal's teammate at Carlin Motorsport until the end of the season.

Currently, Juan Leal is ranked 9th in the GP2 standings with a 6th place as his best result at the Monaco Grand Prix in GP2. Meanwhile, his now former teammate, Marco Sorensen, did not manage to score any points; he will soon make way for Johnny Cecotto in the team to focus on the GT Series championship.
The Venezuelan driver will join Julian Leal for the Silverstone meeting, where Leal excelled last year by finishing 5th twice. The newcomer is well-acquainted with the GP2 world: last season, he stood on the podium 5 times and claimed two victories under the colors of Trident Racing.
On the official Carlin Motorsport website, Cecotto expressed his thoughts on his nomination: « I am really excited to be back in a GP2 single-seater, especially with a team that has such a history in motorsport. A few years ago, I was very close to working with them. It’s good to finally race together with Carlin. I love Silverstone, I’ve had several podiums there, it’s great to be back ».
Trevor Carlin, the director of Carlin Motorsport, also spoke; he paid tribute to Marco Sorensen by wishing him good luck: “We are very sad to see Marco leave us so early in the season before he could demonstrate his full potential with us, but we fully understand his decision to now focus on his GT activities. He’s a very nice guy, and we wish him all the best in the future.”
He explains the choice to replace Marco Sorensen with Johnny Cecotto: « In such a short period of time, we wanted a driver who could drive, be comfortable in a GP2, and above all deliver a good result. I am eager to see Julian and Johnny in action together this weekend ».
After 8 races in GP2, Carlin Motorsport is ranked 8th in the Constructors’ Championship.
