Qualifications – GP2: Sergey Sirotkin secures his first pole position at Silverstone
After coming close to the best time in qualifying during previous weekends, Sergey Sirotkin managed to secure his first pole position in GP2 this Friday. He is ahead of the championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne and Richie Stanaway.

First in practice and fourth in Austria, Sergey Sirotkin had already shown that he had a great pace on a lap. On a track as demanding as Silverstone, he managed to cross the finish line by achieving the fastest time of the qualifying session. The Russian even improved his time on his last attempt, although his previous time would have allowed him to start from the same position.
He therefore managed to push Stoffel Vandoorne to his limits, who over-attacked in his last attempt, to the point of making a mistake in the devilish Becketts-Chapel sequence. Nevertheless, with his second place, the McLaren development driver is in a good position to try and secure another victory.
His main rival in the championship, Alexander Rossi, will start just behind him as he was overtaken for third place on the last lap by Richie Stanaway. He is ahead of a duo of French drivers, Arthur Pic and Pierre Gasly. Raffaele Marciello had a busy day between his F1 practice session and his two GP2 sessions. He finishes in 8th place, which might allow him to score points.
The novice Oliver Rowland had a good session as he was third after the first series of fast laps, before dropping to 9th position.
