Alex Lynn sets his goals and praises Mitch Evans
Current GP2 driver, Alex Lynn sets his short and long-term goals. While he plans to secure an F1 seat for 2017, he pays tribute to Mitch Evans, his main rival.

In parallel with his position as a driver at DAMS, Alex Lynn has been appointed as a development driver at Williams since this year 2015. However, the English driver is a former member of the Red Bull Junior Team, but since the appointment of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr at Toro Rosso, the English driver decided to leave this structure to have a chance to make his entry into F1.
To Motorsport, the English driver spoke about this choice: “Leaving Red Bull was the best decision for several reasons, to be honest. One of the reasons for leaving Red Bull is that I am aiming for an F1 seat within two years. If I had stayed with them, I wouldn’t have achieved it, and a great opportunity arose with Williams, where I decided to go.”
He explains his role at Grove: « Every day I spend in England, I work at the factory. I feel like a full-fledged employee of the company. It is a great satisfaction to be in this team, I am happy ».
Winner of the main GP2 race in Hungary, Alex Lynn was able to see Claire Williams and other team members gather at the foot of the podium. Furthermore, he assesses his chances of getting into F1: “They are closely interested in my career, I am proud to be with them. For now, it’s hard to say, I have to focus, persevere, and if an opportunity arises then I will seize it.”
Accusing a 147-point deficit to Stoffel Vandoorne, Alex Lynn no longer has illusions about the GP2 title. Now, he is aiming for second place, held by Alexander Rossi, from whom he is 42 points behind. But the Briton is wary of several drivers: « The goal for the end of this season is to finish second in the standings. I think it’s a realistic and achievable goal. I know I’m not alone; there’s Alexander Rossi, Rio Haryanto, Mitch Evans, Pierre Gasly… It will remain tight for second place ».
Concluding this interview with Motorsport, Alex Lynn paid tribute to Mitch Evans: « The most competitive driver I have ever measured myself against is Mitch Evans, during my early days in motorsport. From a young age, he has been a very professional person and an impeccable driver. When I started my career, he taught me a lot of things ».
Lacking opportunities in F1 and due to budget constraints, Mitch Evans is expected to turn to endurance racing for the continuation of his career, as has been the case for many other drivers in recent years.
