The Prema team will replace Lazarus in GP2
After four seasons in GP2, Lazarus will make way for another Italian team. The European F3 champion team Prema will take over its GP2 license.

The team arrived in 2012 to replace another outfit, Super Nova Racing. During its first three seasons, it was named Venezuela GP Lazarus, due to significant financial support from the South American country. In its first season, it welcomed Giancarlo Serenelli, who did not manage to emulate his compatriot Pastor Maldonado.
Nevertheless, her last season was particularly complicated, with notably two weekends (Austria and Hungary) where she was only able to field one single-seater. However, she still managed to secure a nice third place through the French driver Nathanael Berthon during the second race in Bahrain. Tancaderi Pagiaro, the team director, has thus chosen to focus on a new discipline, the GT3, by fielding a Lamborghini Huracan.
If Prema is going to make its debut in GP2, it is not unknown in the promotional formulas since it has been securing the European F3 title since 2011, notably with drivers like Roberto Mehri, Daniel Juncadella, Raffaele Marciello, or Esteban Ocon. While it will now be in GP2, it does not plan to abandon its other activities: « Moving to GP2 is a logical step for Prema, following successful experiences in Formula 3 and in the German and Italian Formula 4 championships, which we will continue with the same level of commitment. »
This is reminiscent of ART Grand Prix’s journey, which had dominated the F3 titles before expanding to GP2, GP3, and now DTM. We can only hope that the Italian team will experience such success in the future.
