The start of the season for Norman Nato began idyllically on the Barcelona circuit, with a victory in the first race. This great performance was nearly repeated on the streets of Monaco, but the Cannes native had to settle for second place: « The start of the season went really well. Even before, the winter testing went super well. »

Unfortunately, the subsequent races were more complicated for the driver who is in his second season of GP2: « There were some frustrations in the following races because we were lacking a bit of performance, and I made a few small mistakes too. We lost some silly points, which we miss today. »

He was also a victim of bad luck, with a collision in the first race at Hockenheim, where he could legitimately aim for another podium. In the second German race, he tried to make up for his delay but was again involved in a collision, which forced him to settle for an 18th place finish.

But if Norman Nato chose to join Racing Engineering, it is to aim for the title. Therefore, he cannot be satisfied with his current sixth place in the championship: « Sixth, it’s not our goal. We’re not that far from our goal but it’s not where we want to be. But this year, the championship is such a rollercoaster that anything can happen. Thirty points is a lot and a little. So nothing is lost. »

The Frenchman can thus reassure himself by seeing the performance signed by Sergey Sirotkin during the previous weekend, which allowed him to move up seven positions in the championship and even take the lead: « We are still 7-8 who can aim for the championship, which complicates the races because the guy who is 7th or 6th like me, he can still win and will therefore play his card to the fullest. So there can be big battles on the track, which should be a great show. Now, the key is going to be scoring points every time. »

He therefore approaches the second part of the season with a lot of ambitions, after being able to recharge his batteries during the summer break: « It really did us good. Both for us drivers but especially for the mechanics. When we have a July like the one we had, everyone needed to take a break. In GP2, we are not used to having so many back-to-back races. »

Norman Nato is therefore eager to resume hostilities, especially on a track like Spa-Francorchamps and its moment of bravery at Eau Rouge.
