Sergey Sirotkin was not supposed to compete this year. However, as the year progresses, his schedule is filling up.

Thus, he has just finished his first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 34th position, aboard the LMP2 entered by SMP Racing, his long-time sponsor.

He will resume service at the end of the week as he will return to ART Grand Prix, his F2 team from last year. Indeed, the French team was forced to find a replacement for Alex Albon, who suffered a fall on his bike during training and broke his collarbone. The Thai driver hopes to reclaim his place at the Austrian Grand Prix.

However, Sergey Sirotkin seems to be in pole position if Renault were to decide that Jolyon Palmer’s results are really too disappointing. The test day in Valencia, at the same time as Robert Kubica, is a sign that the team wants to sharpen its third driver as best as possible and that a decision could come in the short term.
