After winning the F3 title with Prema Racing Team, Mick Schumacher will stay with the Italian team he knows well to make the leap into the antechamber of the premier category of motorsport.

This promotion makes sense when you consider that the German managed to dominate the championship at the end of the season, thanks in particular to 14 podiums including 8 victories. A first unexpected title when you look at the start of Dan Ticktum’s season, a Red Bull protege, but also his 2017 F3 season where Schumacher only finished 12th.

Prema is a winning team in Formula 2 as it is the one that led Gasly and Leclerc to a driver’s title, and knowing the seats the two men will have next year, one can only be eager to see if the son of the seven-time Formula 1 champion will be able to maintain his momentum.

If for now the 19-year-old German driver is not part of any young driver program, it is not hard to know that if he manages to show talent in 2019, a contract for, maybe, a spot in F1 as early as 2020 is conceivable.

The director of Prema Racing is very enthusiastic about the idea of continuing to have the prodigal son in his team: « We are proud to welcome Mick to our Formula 2 team in 2019. He is an extremely talented and dedicated driver. Working with him is a pleasure and we are eager to start this adventure together. This championship is not an easy task due to its learning curve for beginners, especially with the introduction of the new car, but we believe that Mick has the maturity and skills necessary to win it and we are happy to be a part of it. »
