Yuki Tsunoda is promoted to F2
Red Bull announced today that it has placed Yuki Tsunoda in Formula 2 with Carlin.

While it was expected that Juri Vips would be promoted by Red Bull in F2, the Austrian brand ultimately chose to place Yuki Tsunoda in the antechamber of Formula 1. The Japanese driver is the latest great hope from his country, which has been waiting since Kamui Kobayashi’s departure at the end of 2014 for a new Japanese driver to succeed in reaching the pinnacle of motorsport.
After three seasons in Japanese Formula 4, where he showcased impressive skills by winning the title and securing 7 out of 14 available races in 2018. In 2019, Honda placed him in Formula 3, a championship quite different from what he had experienced so far. Despite a brief adaptation period, Tsunoda demonstrated excellent top speed at the end of the season, securing three podiums, including a victory at Monza. He ultimately finished the season in 9th place.
A busy year in 2019 as he also participated in the Euroformula Open Championship with Moropark, where he finished 4th behind his compatriot Marina Sato, who raced in F2 this year without showing much, unfortunately.
2020 will therefore be a pivotal year for Yuki Tsunoda, who will race in Formula 2 with one of the most prestigious teams in the discipline, Carlin. He replaces Matsushita, who, despite a victory in Italy, did not convince enough.
