Bahrain Grand Prix: Unlucky Forcaire, Lawson in charge

The young wolves of Formula 2 are diving into the deep end, and starting their 2021 season! The only French driver on the F2 grid, Théo Pourchaire started from pole ahead of David Beckman and Liam Lawson.

Surprised by the starting procedure and the quick lights out, Théo Pourchaire misses his momentum and finds himself in third place at the first turn. The French rookie quickly recovered second place by overtaking David Beckmann. While the Grassois driver was having a solid race, his car couldn’t keep up with the pace and forced him to stop on the 13th lap.

The best start is credited to the championship favorite Robert Shwartzman, starting 11th on the grid, he quickly moves his Prema up to 5th place. He positions himself just ahead of Christian Lundgaard, another title favorite. In the end, the threat comes from his teammate Oscar Piastri, last year’s F3 champion. The Australian appears several times in the rearview mirrors without ever finding an opening on the Russian driver.

Third on the grid, Liam Lawson leads the race with a masterful hand, but 5 laps from the checkered flag, he sees Jehan Daruvala coming back in his rearview mirrors. The two Red Bull junior team drivers left David Beckman more than 7 seconds behind. At the end of the 23 laps, the New Zealander (rookie) wins this sprint race for his first F2 victory!
