A month and a half after the first weekend, the F2 is back!

After Bahrain at the end of March, the F2 returns to the Monaco circuit, a mythical track that reveals talents. Cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, many Formula 2 drivers will discover the track of the Principality this weekend.

If the rookies showed themselves incisive from the first F2 appointment in Bahrain, it is nevertheless an experienced driver who leads the championship. Guanyu Zhou is at the top of the standings ahead of Liam Lawson and Jehan Daruvala.

The only French driver registered in F2 this year, Théo Pourchaire will be keen to shine in Monaco, where he was born not far from there, in Grasse, north of Cannes, just an hour’s drive from the Principality! At the wheel of ART Grand Prix, the young rookie is currently 11th in the championship with 8 points.

Viewers and the 3,000 spectators in the stands will be able to watch three races. Indeed, the new race format includes two sprint races and a main race as the highlight of the weekend. The first Sprint race will take place on Friday at noon and will feature a top 10 reverse grid from qualifying, while the second Sprint race, held early on Saturday, will have a top 10 reverse grid from the first race. After the F1 qualifications, the main race on Saturday afternoon will see the drivers line up based on their qualifying results from Thursday.

The drivers will have to negotiate the 19 corners of the circuit 30 times in sprint race 1 and 2, and then 40 times in the main race. In 2019, the weekend format only consisted of 2 races, it’s worth remembering that the last two winners in Monaco are Nyck de Vries (2019 F2 champion) and the late Anthoine Hubert, who won in a photo finish against Swiss driver Louis Delétraz.
