The news from Sochi!

Two months and seven days after the last appearance of the F2 drivers during the main race in Sochi, the 22 drivers are making their return this weekend in Jeddah for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. We recap all the news during this long break!

The 2022 calendar has been unveiled with fourteen race weekends and two races per weekend.

The news we were all waiting for:

  • The second Alfa Romeo seat, Guanyu Zhou, currently second in the championship, will be Valtteri Bottas’ teammate in the Italian team, which implies that Théo Pourchaire will not be in F1 until further notice. Indeed, Frédéric Vasseur stated that Théo should have all the cards at hand before being able to make it to F1.
  • Oscar Piastri will become the reserve driver for the Alpine team in 2022.
  • Big news on the French side, Clément Novalak will finish his 2021 season in F2 with MP Motorsport
  • Swiss driver Ralph Boschung is extended in F2 for next year, still with Campos team.
  • Oli Caldwell eighth in F3 in 2021, replaces David Beckmann for the last two meetings at Campos.
  • Jack Doohan, F3 2021 vice champion, replaces Richard Verschoor at MP Motorsport for the last two meetings. He will team up with his F3 teammate, Frenchman Clément Novalak. The Australian is expected to join Uni Virtuosi for 2022.
  • Logan Sargeant, also in F3 in 2021, will be present in Jeddah and Abu Dhabi with HWA replacing Jake Hughes.
  • Robert Shwarztman will be the test driver for the Haas F1 team during the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi.
