Formula 2: The season 2022 guide! Part 1
Formula 2 is back this week for the winter testing. Motors Inside will be your guide for this 2022 season! Let's talk about the changes in this first part before discussing the contenders in a second one.

To start this 2022 guide, let’s take a moment to discuss the changes in the regulations, and not just any changes!
New format!
The format will return to 2 races per weekend, with a Sprint race on Saturday where the top 10 of the reversed qualifying grid will start. The main race will take place on Sunday, with the grid being determined by the results of the qualifying session.
This year, the grid for the Sprint race will be determined through qualifications rather than the results of the long race.
More races!
As weekends consist of 2 races, it was necessary for F2 to ensure a sufficient number of meetings!
This season, we will have a total of 14 meetings (since Russia has been canceled, it is likely that the meeting will be replaced). This means there will be 28 races for the season, which is simply a record for the sport!
The F2 will discover two tracks: Imola and Zandvoort!
Here is the schedule for the 2022 season!
New points scale!
For 2022, 2 points will be awarded for the pole position (compared to 4 previously).
The points scale remains unchanged for the fastest laps (1 point per race) and the same goes for the points of the main race (same scale as in Formula 1).
The points are changing for the sprint races. Less points will be awarded, the top eight will still earn points but the winner will now receive 10 points (instead of 15 previously), 8 for second place, 6 for third place, and 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the remaining five.
A driver will be able to score a maximum of 39 points per weekend.
A new team!
HWA Racelab is leaving Formula 2… But there will still be 11 teams in the paddocks!
The Dutch team Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) joins Formula 2 (as well as Formula 3).
The team is well known in lower disciplines. It has notably had Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Anthoine Hubert, and many others in its ranks in European F3.
Part 2 will be dedicated to the forces at play for the 2022 season to come…
