French F2 Grand Prix – Logan Sargeant takes pole position by 6 milliseconds
The qualifications of the Formula 2 French Grand Prix showed very small gaps between the drivers. In a pocket handkerchief of 29 milliseconds between the top three, it is Logan Sargeant who stands out. Pourchaire will start 5th.
The heat is still stifling on the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet when the Formula 2 cars take to the track for the qualifying session, despite the late hour, 6:30 PM. The drivers exchange the fastest lap times, and as the track cools down, the lap times progressively improve.
Some drivers are experiencing reliability issues that are ruining their qualification. This is the case for Enzo Fittipaldi on the Charouz team and Dennis Hauger on the Prema team.
A few minutes before the end of qualifying, French driver Théo Pourchaire on ART temporarily takes pole position before being beat on his final lap by Iwasa on Dams. Two drivers are still on track to set one last lap time and take advantage of it to move up in the standings. Logan Sargeant thus secures pole position for the feature race by just 6 milliseconds ahead of Iwasa and 29 milliseconds ahead of Vesti. With the reverse grid, these three drivers will start 10th, 9th, and 8th in the sprint race this Saturday afternoon.
Jack Doohan signs the 4th best time ahead of Théo Pourchaire in the ART. The French driver had set the 6th best time but Drugovich had his fastest lap canceled for not respecting track limits.
By securing the 10th position, Daruvala will thus start in pole position for the sprint race. He will have Lawson next to him.
