Daruvala abandons his F1 dream and now aims for Formula E

Currently, ranked 6th in the F2 driver standings after three rounds, Jehan Daruvala is no longer part of the Red Bull Junior program this year, unlike his teammate at MP Motorsport, Dennis Hauger.

While he is competing in his fourth consecutive season in the F1 feeder series, he is also simultaneously serving as a reserve and test driver for the Mahindra team in FE.

“My future lies in Formula E,” says the 24-year-old driver.

« It was a quite difficult decision to make. Last year, staying for a fourth season in F2 was not the plan. I had enough, I didn’t want to do it. Then I had the chance to join MP. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t a top team. I’m here to win. »

“My season didn’t go as planned last year,” remembers the Indian.

Seventh in 2022, where he only achieved one victory at Monza with the prestigious Prema team, Daruvala acknowledges that this poor season shattered his dream of getting to F1, but not his ambition to win the F2 championship.

« This wasn’t the best year. That’s why I had to consider other options than Formula 1. The Formula E was the best option. Mahindra, as an Indian team, and me as an Indian, it was the perfect combination. Being a reserve driver is one thing, of course, I want to be in the cockpit soon. I have to give my best in F2, fight for the title, and earn my place. »

« I would like to race in Europe. I know a lot of people here, they know me. If I were to go to Japan or America, everything would be new. Furthermore, Formula E has a high level in terms of teams and manufacturers, and the drivers are also of a high level. I want to compete with the best drivers in the world, and I believe that Formula E can allow me to do that. »
