Test in F1 with Alpine for Victor Martins: “It was more to discover”
At the beginning of the month, Victor Martins had the opportunity to participate in a test day with Alpine in Monza. A success that brought him a lot in terms of his experience in a single-seater car.
On May 8th, Victor Martins completed his first test in a Formula 1 car. As a member of the Alpine Academy, the young Frenchman had the opportunity to join the French team at Monza behind the wheel of the A521, which was victorious in Hungary.
A promising day
Even if the lap times were good, the objective for Victor Martins was primarily for himself. This test was an opportunity for him to discover how a Formula 1 car operates. Thanks to these tests in Italy, Victor Martins was able to adapt to the single-seater and make the initial contacts with Alpine.
« The test, for me, was more about discovering, about getting initiated to single-seaters, seeing what it represents. I had expectations, I had already tried it on the simulator. So the testing day was more for me. Afterwards, the team was also able to draw conclusions from it. » explains in an exclusive interview with Motors Inside.
No impact on the future
The main objective of the day was not the sporting plan. Even though the Formula 2 driver achieved good times, these tests were not significant and did not count for anything. The test day will have no impact on Victor Martins’ future in motorsports.
« The lap times are not representative. Even if I have set good lap times, the team won’t decide that I am the next driver to go. The objective of this day was really for me, to discover and see what it’s like. It has made me even more eager to be there in the future. »
No further attempt planned
For now, Victor Martins has no other tests scheduled with Alpine. Currently in eleventh place in the F2 championship, the Frenchman shows a good pace but still makes some mistakes. The results are therefore slightly disappointing, but the speed demonstrated is more than convincing.
« For now, I don’t have any. But I hope to have some later. It’s not necessarily the main objective. But like I said, I know it will be based on the results and not just the performance because that’s already there. But I will have to score points. If I do what it takes, they will give me other opportunities to keep driving, continue learning and deepen the experience accumulated on the first day. »
