In the final straight towards the Formula 2 title, it is Théo Pourchaire who is in front. The 20-year-old driver from Grasse has come closer to the grail in Monza after a controlled weekend.

On Sunday, [during the](/f2/actualite/31554-grand-prix-ditalie-bearman-gagne-pourchaire-presque-champion.html) interrupted main race at Monza with several safety car periods, the French driver crossed the finish line in third place, earning him 15 valuable points in the standings. Meanwhile, his main rival in the title race, Frederik Vesti, had a very bad day as he retired on the first lap. Therefore, the Danish driver from Prema scored no points, even though he had managed to close the gap on Pourchaire after the sprint race on Saturday. Behind, the race for the podium is going to be fierce. The impressive performance of Dams’ Japanese driver, Ayumu Iwasa, who finished second on Sunday, allows him to extend the gap with Jack Doohan (Invicta) and Victor Martins (ART). The Red Bull Junior Team driver is now only 14 points behind the unfortunate Vesti.

Bearman pushes from behind the top 5

The other big challenge will come from the battle for the title of best rookie of the season between the Frenchman Victor Martins and the big winner of the day, Oliver Bearman. The Prema British driver has been consistent this weekend and clinched his 3rd victory (in the main race) of the season.

On his side, Martins had shown great promise with his second place in the sprint race at Monza but unfortunately had to retire the following day. As a result, the native of Essonne only scored 9 points in Monza.

From now on, the final decision will be made during the last round of the season, at the end of November in the United Arab Emirates.
