F2 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Victor Martins sets fastest time in Free Practice
For the last Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi, Frenchman Victor Martins set the fastest time in the free practice sessions. The driver supported by Alpine achieved a time two-tenths faster than the second-placed driver in the session.

Victor Martins has just distinguished himself with the best time in the final free practice session of the F2 season, for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The French driver, a member of the Alpine Academy, completed a lap in 1:37.389, two tenths faster than Zane Maloney, Théo Pourchaire, Jack Doohan, and Richard Verschoor.
Martins is currently fifth in the championship with 131 points, just one point ahead of the British driver Oliver Bearman. Apart from this fifth place in the standings, the French driver has nothing left to play for. This season, he has achieved nine podium finishes, including a victory in race 2 at the British Grand Prix, as well as three pole positions.
His future in the ART stable is not guaranteed, but with Théo Pourchaire’s departure, who was the favorite for the title with a 25-point lead over Frederik Vesti, Victor Martins’ performances should secure him another season in the F1 feeder series and become Zak O’Sullivan’s teammate in 2024.
The results of these practice tests
Frederik Vesti, the main competitor to Pourchaire for the title, achieved the ninth fastest time in 1:38.113 minute, four tenths behind the championship leader and six tenths behind Martins.
Franco Colapinto at MP Motorsport and Paul Aron with Trident had a difficult start. The former recorded the 19th best time, 1.6 minutes behind the French driver, while Aron came in 20th in the free practice session, two tenths slower than Colapinto.
Arthur Leclerc did not finish the session, the Monegasque driver was a victim of a technical problem and was immobilized on the track.
