The Formula 3 is about to begin a new era with the presentation of its 2025 single-seater, a competition vehicle that promises to be a true revolution in the category. It will be used until 2027 and reflects the ambition of the FIA and Formula 1 to best prepare young talents for the challenges that await them in F2 and F1.

The President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, highlights the importance of this development: « The F3 Championship continues to offer exciting races, tight battles for the title, and, above all, represents a fundamental training ground for future members of the Formula 1 grid. » He adds: « This new car also marks an important step in our journey towards sustainability, using fuel compliant with the FIA’s 100% sustainable fuel standard, an innovation that will arrive in Formula 1 in 2026. »

The new F3 is characterized by its technical and environmental innovations. Equipped with a 3.4-liter Mecachrome 6-cylinder engine developing 380 horsepower, it incorporates advanced technologies aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the championship. The new car will also run with a new 16-inch Pirelli tire containing a natural rubber component.

The car’s aerodynamics have been designed to promote overtaking, allowing for more on-track action. Bruno Michel, CEO of the FIA Formula 3 Championship, stated in this regard that « The F3 2025 has been designed to offer exciting races, with numerous overtaking opportunities. »

The project also aims to be inclusive. According to Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA: “The improved cockpit design reflects our ongoing efforts to make motorsport more inclusive, ensuring that drivers of all physical profiles have the opportunity to compete at the highest level.” “This desire for openness is part of a broader vision of motorsport as a driver of social progress.”

After a successful first test in June last year in Varano with former F2 driver Tatiana Calderon, the car has already covered 2,000 kilometers. The development program will continue until the end of the year. Teams will receive the first cars in late 2024, with official tests scheduled to start in early 2025.
