For the second edition of the electric car championship, the organizers have allowed multiple manufacturers to supply their technology to the teams. While eight teams will have their own technology, Team Aguri has decided to stick with the technology developed this season by McLaren.

For Mark Preston, the team boss, the main reason for this decision is the reliability his team will benefit from compared to its competitors, especially when comparing to what may happen in other categories like F1: When you see Honda’s problems this year in Formula 1 with almost unlimited resources and compare it to the size of all the teams in Formula E, they seem small. So, it’s a big risk if something goes wrong in development, especially since there are few official test days to fix the problem. We decided to keep the same engine because there are few changes in the rules, and we think the McLaren engine is efficient and reliable.

The team will therefore be able to benefit from this year’s experience while the others will have to start from scratch: « We want to use what we know and optimize it to its full potential. We can play with the software like everyone else. We think we still have a lot to learn from this package. We need to find out what we have while the others will have to start by focusing on developing their own engine. »
