Oliver Turvey close to signing with NEXTEV TCR
The first Formula E world champion, Nelson Piquet Jr, should soon know the identity of his teammate within the NEXTEV TCR team. It is believed to be Olivier Turvey, who hopes for a resolution in the coming days.
Last week, pre-season tests took place at Donington Park in England, preparing the world of Formula E for the first ePrix of the season in China.
During these tests, the China Racing team, renamed NEXTEV TCR, did not want to engage another driver besides its reigning world champion.
Contacts exist, however, with the Briton Oliver Turvey, who spoke about his situation to Motorsport magazine after a first day of testing with the Chinese team: « For the moment, we are in negotiations, but I hope there will be a decision soon. However, nothing is confirmed, but I wish to continue my career in Formula E ».
Last season, the British driver participated in two Formula E races during the final event in London at Battersea Park. He finished ninth twice, earning 4 points.
During the first day of testing at Donington, he was unable to finish his program due to a problem with the engine: « During the tests conducted in June and July, we did not encounter any issues with the new engine. In recent days, the team has worked extensively on the simulator, and in the end, we have a lot of data recorded. Now we hope to cover many kilometers ».
