Starting from 14th place on the grid, Sam Bird finishes in a surprising 2nd position, just behind Lucas di Grassi, winner of this second race for ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport. At the end of the race, while in 4th place in the Malaysian ePrix, the Englishman overtakes Loic Duval for 3rd place, and later Robin Frijns, who makes a driving error and is forced to drive his damaged single-seater.

On the podium, the former GP2 driver is happy with this position, as he expressed to the official Formula E website: « I am absolutely satisfied. I dedicate this result to the DS Virgin Racing team. I don’t think people know that before the race, the guys worked very hard to fix the problems we encountered. We didn’t even think we’d finish the race because we only had one battery in the car. Thankfully, the mechanics at Virgin worked so quickly. »

He also explains that Formula E is a very interesting championship with lots of twists, as this race can attest: « If people don’t say that Formula E is exciting, then I think they’re not watching the same race. It was carnage, but cool carnage. It’s a championship people should watch because it was a fantastic race. »
