Season 3 schedule speculation: six new destinations in the sights, including New York?
Rumours are flying about the calendar for the third Formula E season. New cities are on the (provisional) agenda. Not least because New York looks set to host an ePrix!

An American dream close to becoming real?
The press conference on the sidelines of the Berlin ePrix was particularly lively this Friday. Journalists were eagerly anticipating a draft of next season’s Formula E calendar. They were not disappointed as New York appears on the provisional list for the third round of the 100% electric discipline. Although the news is not yet official, Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, revealed a rather interesting piece of information:
“The New York race is not yet confirmed. I was there last week and the talks are progressing.”
Recently, Agag had not hidden his excitement about such a project: “Our dream is to have an ePrix there. I’d love to race in Brooklyn, with the skyline as a backdrop.”
After the first Mexico ePrix held in mid-March, Formula E is ready to establish itself on the North American continent. Besides New York, Montreal is also close to an agreement.
“Montreal is on the right track, the city has a good chance of being on the list of races that we will soon communicate to the FIA,” indicated the Spanish businessman. Proof of its progress, the Montreal race is said to have already set its circuit. It would not be held on Île Gilles-Villeneuve, but within the Quebec city itself.
Note that if the Montreal and New York races both take place, they would be close together: they could end the season in July 2017, each featuring two ePrix!
A rich and varied schedule?
The season would start on Sunday, October 9, 2016, with the first Hong Kong ePrix, which has already been confirmed for a few months.
The Formula E schedule also aims to highlight three other new destinations: Marrakech in November (which would be the first ePrix in Africa), as well as Singapore in April and Brussels in June.
However, all this information should be considered provisional. This schedule is still subject to approval by the FIA, which will assess the validity of these plans at an upcoming international meeting.
In total, 12 events and 14 races are currently on the schedule. Consequently, the cities of Beijing, Putrajaya, Punta del Este, and London would be sidelined.
Monaco, which nearly replaced the Moscow ePrix this season, would return to Formula E with an ePrix scheduled for May 13.
At this point, 12 Formula E cities are in the running, with the following distribution:
-4 en Amérique du Nord,
-4 en Europe,
-2 en Asie,
-1 en Amérique du Sud,
-1 en Afrique
Provisional Date | City | Country | |

4 | Saturday, February 25, 2017 | Buenos Aires | Argentina |
5 | Saturday, March 25, 2017 | Long Beach | United States |
6 | Saturday, April 22, 2017 | Singapore | Singapore |
7 | Saturday, May 13, 2017 | Monaco | Monaco |
8 | Saturday, May 27, 2017 | Paris | France |

Thus, the draft of such a calendar demonstrates the beautiful growth Formula E is experiencing. In fact, more than a hundred cities around the world have already expressed the desire to host an ePrix!
Interviewed by the online magazine “Current-e,” Alejandro Agag also confirms his desire to include new destinations like Australia and the Middle East in the future.
Concerning the quantity, a maximum number of 15 or 16 rounds in a season seems “reasonable,” whereas a total of 20 races would be “too much” for the major organizer of the series.
The future will tell us in any case if this gargantuan schedule will really take shape for this upcoming new season. Before that, don’t forget to follow on our site the conclusion of the second batch of Formula E!
