Esteban Gutiérrez to contest several Formula E races

Without a Formula 1 seat, Esteban Gutiérrez will be taking part in several Formula E events, including one in his native Mexico, to keep up with the pace of the competition.

Esteban Gutierrez’s options in F1 were very limited since his non-renewal by Haas in favor of Kevin Magnussen. While he hoped to return to Sauber in Hinwil, it will ultimately be Pascal Wehrlein who inherits that seat. Additionally, Manor is once again close to bankruptcy, with judicial administration proceedings decided last week.

Under these circumstances, it makes sense that the new entourage of the Mexican driver has explored other alternatives, starting with Formula E. This is how a press conference was organized today in Mexico to announce that he would compete in several events of this electric formula, including the second ePrix held in this city, which will take place on April 1st.

Nevertheless, this announcement goes far beyond mere participation as a driver. Indeed, the 25-year-old driver is expected to become an ambassador for the discipline. It can be noted in his statement that he doesn’t have just a driver’s discourse: « I have always followed and kept up with Formula E, thanks to my relationship with Alejandro Agag (editor’s note: the founder of the discipline). I have always followed his projects, and Formula E is part of that. I have been very impressed by the development of the category. Electric cars are the future of urban mobility. It’s very interesting to see how innovation has been pushed in the category. »

It was not specified which team he will join, nor what other dates are scheduled for his participation in the discipline.
