Since retiring from his F1 career, Nico Rosberg has not remained inactive. He has embraced his new roles as an ambassador for Mercedes and Hugo Boss. He has also attended numerous conferences to speak about mobility and reflect on how his athletic past could be beneficial to brands and in the business world.

Today we learn that he has decided to personally invest in the development of Formula E as he has become a shareholder: « Since my retirement, I have been very interested in e-mobility and its potential to have a positive impact on our society and our planet. I have also long believed in the potential of Formula E and joined it by becoming an investor some time ago. »

It is therefore with this dual role as a driver and shareholder in the discipline that he decided to get back behind the wheel, but only for a demonstration of the second-generation car. This will take place as a prelude to the Berlin ePrix, held at the disused Tempelhof airport.

This announcement is made on the same day as the confirmation of the approval of the entries from Mercedes and Porsche. This brings the number of teams that will be present during season 6, which will span between 2019 and 2020, to 11. “The landscape of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is undergoing significant changes, and today’s confirmation of the presence of two more manufacturers for the sixth season is further proof of the success of this concept,” commented Jean Todt, president of the FIA. “Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are both brands with a long and rich history in motorsport, and the level of the 11 manufacturers that will line up on the track starting from 2019/20 is very high.”
