At the beginning of March, Mercedes had presented to the world a temporary livery that primarily served to confirm its definite entry into Formula E. The German team has now driven its single-seater on the Italian track of Varano.

The new toy of the team at Etoile managed to cover 527km. While it seems that reliability is on point, we will certainly have to wait for the 2018-2019 Formula E season to get an idea of the performance. It was Stoffel Vandoorne and Edoardo Mortara who were behind the wheel of Mercedes’ first electric single-seater.

The Belgian driver is strongly linked to Mercedes. In fact, he is the development driver for the five-time world champion Formula 1 team and also a driver for HWA Racelab in Formula E. As for Mortara, he is an official Mercedes AMG driver and also a Formula E driver at Venturi.

Toto Wolff, the director of Mercedes Motorsports is excited about this new challenge: “Not only have we reached an important milestone for our young team, but we have also laid a solid foundation for further development. However, there is still a lot of work to be done before our race debut when the next season begins towards the end of this year.”

Note that Mercedes will not be the only manufacturer joining this booming championship. Indeed, its neighbor, Porsche, will also enter Formula E. It will be interesting to see which of the two will be more successful.
