Winner again, new leader: it’s almost a tradition this season, as the 100% electric discipline is so tight. This time, it’s Robin Frijns who takes the jackpot, after a nail-biting victory in Paris, at the eighth ePrix of the season. The Dutchman had never had the honor of leading this Formula E championship: that is now accomplished, with 81 points on the board.

Sixth before the French race, Frijns had achieved two podiums since the start of the season: a second place in Marrakech, and a third place in Hong Kong. His consistency is rewarded, with two other top 5 appearances, in Rome (4th) and Santiago (5th). A small statistic in his favor: di Grassi in 2016, Buemi in 2017, Vergne in 2018… all the drivers who won this Paris ePrix became champions at the end of the season!

Still placed but not winning: André Lotterer secures another second place, two weeks after the Rome ePrix. The DS Techeetah driver moves up one rank in the overall standings and is now second at the end of this Paris event. The German swaps places with Antonio Félix da Costa, who quietly finished seventh this Saturday.

Dropped in the charts, Jérôme d’Ambrosio is having a bad time, falling from first to fourth place. This is due to a disqualification in qualifying and a race that ended in the wall at the first turn. The Belgian is on a bad streak, with only 12 points scored in the last four meetings: now he’s behind Lucas di Grassi, who finished fourth. Another fall in the top 10: Mitch Evans, who left Paris empty-handed.

In difficulty after the qualifications, starting 13th, Vergne slightly salvaged the situation with his sixth place. He now stands sixth overall in the drivers’ championship. However, the gap with the leader is larger tonight: 19 points!

Finally, let’s acknowledge Daniel Abt’s entry into the top 10, thanks to his third place achieved at this Paris ePrix.

Unchanged situation among the constructors: the DS-Techeetah alliance maintains control thanks to the 26 points brought in by Vergne and Lotterer. The top 3 neutralizes each other, as Envision Virgin Racing scores 25 points (Frijns’s victory), and 27 points for Audi Sport Abt due to the strong performances by di Grassi and Abt. However, the gap widens with Mahindra, now 39 points behind the lead. The Indian constructor should have been in the lead if not for the disqualification of their drivers after qualifying… In seventh place, Nissan e.Dams also has a gloomy outlook: Rowland and Buemi started from the front row. Trapped by the rain and the wall, both drivers brought no points to their team, which has yet to win an ePrix this season!

Until then, stay tuned, two more surprises await you in this Formula E section!
