The 2021 Santiago ePrix, new victim of Covid-19
Supposed to be the opening round of the 2021 Formula E season, the Santiago ePrix was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Santiago was supposed to host the first two ePrix races of the new Formula E season this January 2021. However, the global health situation means that the organizers are unable to hold the event, leading to a postponement of the date.
« In consultation with the municipality of Santiago, the Santiago ePrix has been postponed. The two races will not take place on January 16th and 17th, and we are working with the city to finalize the dates on which the races will be held later in the first quarter of 2021. » said the Formula E leaders.
The postponement follows the acceleration of the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK. Most teams, like in Formula 1, being based in Great Britain, the likely inability to travel did not allow for the first two rounds of the season in Chile to be held properly.
« Due to recent news concerning the temporary closure of Chilean borders with the United Kingdom, we have agreed with the Santiago municipality to postpone the 2021 Santiago E-Prix. The double-header on January 16 and 17 will not take place ». it was reported to Motorsport.
The date for the rescheduling of the Santiago ePrix should occur in January, when we should also discover the rest of the calendar for the 100% electric single-seater series.
« We are working with the city to determine the dates on which the races will take place later in the first quarter of the year. We will officially announce these new dates as part of our calendar update in January, when we will also confirm the second series of races for the 2020/21 schedule. »
The only race officially present on the calendar is therefore the Riyadh ePrix in Saudi Arabia, which is also expected to host two races. This event is scheduled to take place on February 26 and 27 and could mark the starting point of the 2021 Formula E championship.
