Giovinazzi flies off to Formula E
Giovinazzi will join the Formula E team Dragon/Penske in 2022. This decision follows his announced departure from Alfa Romeo a few hours ago at the end of the year.
After three years in F1 with the Alfa Romeo team, the Italian is leaving F1 to join its electric little sister, Formula E. Giovinazzi will make his debut with his new team in January and will take part in the pre-season tests in Valencia, which take place between the Qatar Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabia one.
His decision was made quickly and without hesitation after losing his seat at Alfa Romeo to Guanyu Zhou.
« As soon as it was made public that I would not be in Formula 1 next year, I decided to participate in the Formula E World Championship. It’s a category I’ve always followed, I’m excited to be part of Dragon/Penske in this all-electric racing series that I already tested three years ago, explains Giovinazzi.
The Dragon/Penske team finished 11th out of 12 teams in the Formula E constructor championship in 2021.
