Bridgestone is making its comeback in an FIA world championship

Starting in 2026, the Japanese manufacturer will become the exclusive tire supplier for Formula E.

During the last bidding process to become a tire supplier in Formula 1, Bridgestone had to bow down to the current manufacturer, Pirelli. Absent from the pinnacle category since the 2010 season, and more generally from all FIA-governed global competitions, Bridgestone is making its comeback in a world championship through Formula E.

From 2026, when the Gen4 single-seaters will replace the current Gen3, the Japanese manufacturer will take the place of the South Korean company Hankook, which has been equipping the entire FE grid since 2023. Between the start of the electric competition in 2014 and season 8 in 2022, Michelin held the role of exclusive tire supplier.

For the first time in Formula E history, two tire specifications will be brought to ePrix races; a basic grooved tire similar to the one already fitted on the single-seaters, and a typhoon tire that will be mandatory in case of heavy rain.

In addition to this announcement, made during the FIA World Motor Sport Council, Formula E has unveiled the selected companies for the supply of the chassis, batteries, and front powertrain.

As since season 1, it is Spark Racing Technology that will provide the chassis to all teams. The company based in the south of Paris will be responsible for designing a slightly larger single-seater for the Gen4.

Regarding the batteries, it will be Podium Advanced Technologies who will take over from Williams Advanced Engineering, while the front powertrain, which arrived during the transition to Gen3 and allows for a greater regeneration capacity during braking, will be provided by Marelli.
