ePrix de Shanghai – Race 1: Second win of the season for Mitch Evans
Starting third on the grid, the Jaguar driver won the first race of the weekend and is back in the fight for the title.

This first race in the history of Formula E in Shanghai lived up to all its promises. At the end of a relatively clean race with no safety car intervention, Mitch Evans emerged victorious after an exciting battle between Porsche and Jaguar.
Starting from pole position, his second of the year after the first race of the Diriyah ePrix, Jean-Eric Vergne had started his Chinese weekend perfectly. In the leading pack at the start of the race, the DS Penske driver then dropped back in the hierarchy to eventually finish 7th.
Because it was quickly the two Porsche drivers and the two Jaguar drivers who took the lead. Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa first wanted to set up a team strategy to secure the first place. More energy-consuming compared to Jaguar, the two German single-seaters finally had to fight wheel to wheel with their British rivals.
From the tenth place on the grid, championship leader Nick Cassidy has, as often, been one of the drivers finishing the race with the most energy. Back in the wake of his teammate Mitch Evans towards the end of the race, he ultimately finishes third behind Pascal Wehrlein but keeps his first place in the championship ahead of the German driver.
Evans waited until the penultimate lap to take the lead in the race. He thus wins for the second time this season after his victory in Monaco. Behind the top three, Oliver Rowland, da Costa, and Jake Dennis complete the Top 6 ahead of Vergne, Nyck de Vries, Maximilian Günther, and Sébastien Buemi.
Note the first points of the season for the former AlphaTauri driver in Formula 1 since his return to FE. The champion of the 2021 season 7 even led the race for a few corners during the race.
The second race of the Shanghai ePrix will take place tomorrow, Sunday and will start at 9 am (French time).
