The ringed team took advantage of the presentation of the 2015 Audi Sport season at its premises in Neuburg to unveil its prototype, which will attempt to make up for a slightly disappointing 2014 season where Audi was unable to regularly compete with Toyota.

As in previous years, Audi will field two R18 e-tron cars throughout the World Endurance Championship season, the WEC. These two prototypes will be entrusted to André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer, and Marcel Fässler for car no.7, while car no.8 will be driven by the trio Oliver Jarvis, Lucas di Grassi, and Loïc Duval. A third R18 will be on track at Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans, driven by Marco Bonanomi, Filipe Albuquerque, and René Rast.

In addition to its LMP1 program, Audi has unveiled its plans for the DTM, GT, as well as the Audi Sport TT Cup, a new championship that will train young drivers for a future transition to GT racing.
