Mark Webber, the former Red Bull driver, is preparing for his fourth participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. During his career, the current Porsche driver has never reached the finish line, having retired three times (including once when he was withdrawn during the warm-up in 1999 while driving a Mercedes).

The Australian driver participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans last season in the LMP1 category with Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard, but a few hours before the finish, their gearbox became faulty. Le Mans is a brutal event and requires an incredible team effort. The biggest challenge of the race is the race itself, we must survive for 24 hours, we must be technically reliable and make sure everything works, confirmed Max Webber for Crash.

Winner in Monaco, Mark Webber now covets the second element of the triple crown. He is aware that the Porsche LMP1 has the potential to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as evidenced by its encouraging test times: on a single lap, the German manufacturer seems to have an advantage over its pursuers. « The track is incredibly fast, and the pace of the 919 per lap is phenomenal » he confirmed.

For him as for others, Le Mans is a legendary race. And Mark Webber gives us a glimpse of the upcoming weekend: There are some really iconic places around the track like Dunlop, the Mulsanne straight, and the Porsche Curves. There are different phases of the race and the light changes: there’s the sunset, twilight, racing in the dark before dawn, the sunrise, and a new day with still a long way to go. Le Mans is a race apart.
