Kamui Kobayashi becomes a starter at Toyota
After a season as a reserve driver, Kamui Kobayashi becomes a full-time driver for Toyota, replacing the retired Alexander Wurz.

When the Austrian driver announced his retirement, one might have thought that Kamui Kobayashi was the ideal candidate, especially since Toyota had appointed his predecessor, Mike Conway.
It is now official, allowing the Japanese driver to find a race seat again, in the colors of the manufacturer that has supported him throughout his career.
Toshio Sato, the team president, stated: « Kamui has proven his speed and commitment in testing. It was therefore a relatively easy decision to select him to replace Alex. We know that he is capable of doing a good job alongside Stéphane and Mike. »
The other Toyota trio will remain unchanged from last season, with Sébastien Buemi, Anthony Davidson, and Kazuki Nakajima. 2016 will be the year of reclaiming for the 2014 world champions, who will unveil an entirely new car, the TS050, with a completely revamped color scheme. This change is linked to Toyota adopting the Gazoo Racing name last May and deciding to embrace Toyota’s usual racing colors.
