Jean-Eric Vergne joins Manor in WEC

Having drawn a definitive line under Formula 1, Jean-Eric Vergne has just signed up for WEC racing with Manor. He will therefore be present at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

During the winter tests in Barcelona, the FIA announced that Max Verstappen’s initials would change from VES to VER. Indeed, up until now those initials were reserved for Jean-Eric Vergne.

That the FIA made this change shows that the French driver has given up on his future in F1, especially since he also left his role as a reserve driver at Ferrari after two years.

If he had already committed to Formula E since last year, he is going to discover a new championship, namely the WEC. He has just reached an agreement with Manor. While he is not joining the premier LMP1 category, he is entering a highly competitive category: « I am very happy to join the CEFC Manor TRS Racing team for this season in the World Endurance Championship. Endurance racing and, in particular, the 24 Hours of Le Mans have been increasingly on my mind. I couldn’t wish for a better start than with such a team! I am eager to get behind the wheel and bring my motivation to the team to achieve great things together. »

The World Endurance Championship once again proves to be an interesting career switch option for drivers who cannot secure a spot at the top of single-seater racing.
